The National Glory comes to the rescue of 30 distressed Haitians requiring assistance

“While on a coastal voyage from San Juan, PR to Cap Haitian, Haiti, we encountered a small open boat signaling to attract our attention. We slowed and maneuvered to take a closer look,” said Captain Langford of the National Glory.
The Captain added, “As we approached, we found an overloaded open fiberglass boat fitted with an outboard motor adrift. We were close enough to ask some basic questions. We learned that were 30 people on board, all in good health. Their outboard motor quit running, and they were stranded at sea approximately 20 miles off the coast of the Dominican Republic.

We notified the US Coast Guard in San Juan. This happened as US Coast Guard fixed-wing aircraft passed overhead and established radio communications with the bridge. They informed us that they also had notified the US Coast Guard in San Juan and advised of the disabled small boat. Coast Guard San Juan requested that, if possible, we stay on the scene until surface rescue craft could respond. National Glory maintained station with the small boat until we were relieved by a Dominican Republic Navy Craft,” added Captain Langford of the National Glory.
